Sundown for Mac

A menu bar app that warms the Mac screen at sunset on your schedule

Sundown for Mac is a small app that lives in the Mac menu bar and handles the colour temperature of the display in the evening. You set the schedule once, and when sunset comes around the screen moves to a warmer setting by itself, so there is nothing to remember each night.

Warmth runs on a Kelvin ladder from 6500K, normal daylight white, down to 500K, a deep red, in 100K steps. You can stop anywhere on that ladder, which matters because some people want a light tint and others want the screen as red as it goes.

It needs macOS 14 or later, and there is a Classic build for macOS 12 and 13. Sundown is paid, with a 7-day trial, and it is made by Jack Richards.

If you are weighing it against what you use now, there is a page on how Sundown compares with f.lux, and the blue light calculator lets you try a few settings first.
