Hi, I'm James. I'm 26 and currently live in Bournemouth in the UK, and currently work as a Senior Backend Developer.

I have had an interest in Software Development (primarily backend / systems) since I was 13 years old, where I taught myself Java, with a particular focus on building small game servers as that is what I found interesting at the time! After attending College at 16, my interests moved into web development, where I focused on building a strong foundation in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I also learnt PHP to build my first deployed Web Application, an interface to a Minecraft server using web sockets for a popular gaming community that had over 100,000 members at the time. At 18 I setup a small hosting company for local businesses, where I learned about the underlying technologies that power web servers and databases.

In the 8 years since then, I have honed my professional skills virtually entirely in backend development, primarily in the C#/.NET ecosystem, DevOps and the Azure Cloud. I graduated with a 2:1 in BSc Software Engineering from Bournemouth University.

I currently work as a Senior Backend Developer at Greenwood Campbell, with main responsibilities including:

• Solution Architecture
• Backend Application build + maintenance across a variety of client projects
• Management of all Azure Cloud environments and resources
• Improving general Software Development workflows across the entire team
• Improving DevOps build and release processes
• Line managing other backend developers.

Day to day I work with .NET based Content Management systems such as Umbraco and Sitecore on large scale Website Projects, as well as bespoke .NET Core Web Applications. I also have have experience in taking full ownership of application support, helping to debug and fix bugs in specified SLA times.

• I also have extensive experience in setting up CI/CD in Azure DevOps, deploying software to different UAT, Staging and Production Environments, as well as using the Azure Portal to deploy and manage different Azure Resources such as Virtual Machines, App Services, SQL Databases, Blob Storage, Azure Cognitive Services and much more.
