Written by the JurisGrid team, which maintains the grid at JurisGrid (jurisgrid.com) (JurisGrid is run by the eCourtsIndia team). Descriptions come from the JurisGrid listings, which summarise what each company says about itself. Nobody paid to be listed or to be included here, and this is not legal advice.
Signing a rental agreement, a loan document or an employment letter on a phone is now normal in India. Behind that click sits a small group of companies that provide electronic signatures, e-stamping, document execution and the KYC checks that often come with them. JurisGrid tracks Indian legal tech startups in 12 sectors, and its E-Sign & Digital Documents sector currently lists 10 companies.

Three kinds of product in one sector
- Signature infrastructure: eMudhra is a licensed Certifying Authority, the kind of body that issues the digital signature certificates the law relies on. Several others build on top of such authorities.
- Document execution and stamping: Leegality, SignDesk, NeSL and LegalDesk focus on getting a document stamped, signed and stored, which matters for loan and rental paperwork.
- Onboarding and KYC with e-sign: Digio, Signzy, Veri5Digital and Zoop.one sell e-sign as one step in a wider customer onboarding and identity check.
What the law says, briefly
The Information Technology Act, 2000 gives electronic signatures legal recognition, and Aadhaar-based e-sign is one of the methods notified under it. The Act's First Schedule leaves out some documents, such as wills, powers of attorney, trusts and contracts for the sale or conveyance of immovable property, so those still need the traditional route. Stamp duty is a state subject, which is why e-stamping differs from state to state.
How to choose
- Decide whether you need only signatures or signatures plus stamping and KYC.
- Check which signing methods are supported (Aadhaar e-sign, DSC tokens, simple electronic signatures) and which your counterparties can actually use.
- For loan and rental documents, check e-stamping coverage for the states you work in.
- Ask where documents and audit trails are stored and for how long.
FAQ
Is an e-signed agreement valid in India? Generally yes, under the Information Technology Act, 2000, except for the document types in its First Schedule. Take legal advice for anything high-value.
What is the difference between e-sign and a digital signature certificate (DSC)? Aadhaar e-sign creates a one-time signature after OTP or biometric authentication, while a DSC is a certificate (often on a USB token) issued by a Certifying Authority and reused for many signatures.
How does JurisGrid pick companies? JurisGrid lists Indian legal tech companies by sector from public information. Anyone can suggest a missing company from the site.
